Pride Month is celebrated in June each year. The month is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) communities.
The Stonewall Riots
In 1969, riots broke out at the Stonewall Inn, a bar located in New York City. This event marked the beginning of the modern LGBT rights movement.
The AIDS Crisis
By the 1980s, the HIV/AIDS crisis had become a major issue. Many people were dying because of the lack of knowledge surrounding the virus.
The Supreme Court's Marriage Equality Decision
In June 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5–4 that same-sex couples have the right to marry nationwide. This decision overturned the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defined marriage as between one man and one woman.
The Military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy
In 1993, President Bill Clinton signed into law the "Don't Ask, Don't Tease" bill, which prohibited discrimination against gays and lesbians in the military. However, the policy was repealed in 2011 under President Barack Obama.
The Transgender Revolution
The transgender movement has been growing since at least the 1970s when activists began challenging gender norms and demanding access to medical care. In recent years, the transgender rights movement has gained momentum, with more people coming out as transgender and more laws being passed to protect them.

Recently there was a law project (DDL Zan) to give more rights, medical assistance and recognition to lgbtq movement, inusual genital pathologies, unconventional families and to impose measures against gender discrimination, here in Italy. Sadly, the project didn't pass. Some say that is due to the fact that Italians have a strict catholic upbringing but for me it is due to ignorance and pure meanness.
