From feminine to masculine, from minimalist to playful - the spring/summer shoe trends 2021 are guaranteed to cater to every taste. In summary, it can be said: Ballerinas and clogs are celebrating their big fashion comeback, sandals with lace-up details and flip-flops are still in fashion and flatforms and shoes with square toe caps can also be found everywhere next season.

Last shoe trend knowledge is a must for a fashion and style lover lady.

The most important shoe trends for spring/summer 2021 at a glance

Ballerinas

The most surprising fashion comeback of the 2021 season? Definitely that of the ballerinas. For a long time the flat shoe to slip on had been forgotten, was more “basic” than “trendy”. That will change in spring/summer 2021 - there will then be an abundance of ballerinas, from girly to minimalist.

Toes in focus

Minimalist strappy sandals, also known as "naked sandals", we're already a big fashion theme last summer and will hold up in 2021 - albeit with a new twist: the toes come even more into focus and thanks to toe rings or separators they become absolute eye-catchers. Many designers came up with a styling idea for cooler weather: thin socks.

Square toecap shoes

First pointed, then round and now angular again: The toe caps 2021 show clear edges again in fashion. Appropriate shoes - especially pumps and sandals - could be scoffed at in the collections of well-known designers and young hype labels.

Hotel slippers and plush slippers

Slippers and slides that look like you've taken them with you either from your last hotel visit or your flying visit to your grandparents. We say: You can hardly transfer the stay-at-home chic more consistently to the hot season. Incidentally, the slides are styled with everything - whether sweatsuit or dress.

Clogs

Clogs are back! The shoe trend that already emerged in autumn and winter 2020 can no longer be completely ignored. While fashion brands like Hermès, Rag & Bone and designers like JW Anderson and Mara Hoffman are sending flat models of the mules into the race, Simon Miller and Molly Goddard showed high versions in a platform style.

Trekking sandals

Teva and Birkenstock supply the original, designer labels such as Coach, Jason Wu or Boss will show their interpretation of the trekking sandal shoe trend in spring/summer 2021.

Flip flops

Not only trekking sandals are totally in fashion - flip-flops are (again) one of the hottest shoe trends for the summer. However, the designer labels give the sandals an elegant twist and in spring and summer mainly present leather versions with heels or padded soles or straps.

Riding boots

Yeah The riding boot, which was so popular in winter 2020, will remain with us in spring and summer 2021 and is now combined with shorts, skirts, dresses or leggings.

Baby and kitten heels

Not really high, but also not completely flat: Kitten and baby heels are the perfect shoes for the undecided and an extremely ladylike alternative to flats. Chanel showed sandal models with heel straps, Prada pointed kitten heels made of plastic and Tod’s mules with transparent acrylic heels.

Platforms and Flatforms

Platform shoes are back - especially in the form of flatforms, models with a continuous sole of the same height. In New York, Ulla Johnson showed sandals with wide wooden soles, Tod’s presented flatforms in a snake patchwork look and Versace models with chain details.

Shoes with lace details

Not wrapped around crookedly: Shoes - especially sandals - with thin or thick laces are once again one of the most important shoe trends of the season this summer. Chloé, for example, showed sandals with block heels, Christian Dior minimalist thong sandals with laces and Ports 1961 models that wrap up to the knees. A special eye-catcher comes from Tod’s: The Italians showed a hybrid of lace-up sandals and sneakers.

Shoes with an elegant ankle strap

Not only lacing and wrap details are important in the summer season 2021, high heels (sandals and pumps) with elegant ankle straps also play an important role again. Michael Kors Collection, for example, featured ankle-strap sandals with a braided design in natural tones, Loewe showed two-tone pumps and Kenneth Ize showed minimalist models in bold colours.

Loafers

“Chunky Loafers”, i.e. loafers with extra thick soles and a chunky appearance, were already hyped in winter 2020. In the summer of 2021, the masculine shoe will again be a little more graceful and elegant in appearance.
