Some
co-stars from iconic films and series had joyful reunions at the Screen Actors
Guild Awards.
The 30th
annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) unfolded on February 24th at the
Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. Alongside the awards
ceremony, there were heartwarming reunions of cast members from popular films
and series.
"The Devil Wears Prada"
In 2006,
Anne Hathaway (41), Meryl Streep (74), and Emily Blunt (41) achieved tremendous
success together with their roles in "The Devil Wears Prada." Nearly 18
years later, fans were treated to a delightful reunion of the three actresses.
A clip of
their presentation as presenters showed Streep nearly knocking over the
microphone on stage, humorously explaining that she had forgotten her glasses
and the winner's envelope. Both items were brought to her on stage by Hathaway
and Blunt.
Following
this, the trio lightheartedly discussed the resemblance between Streep and her
character as editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly before announcing the nominees in
the "Best Actor in a Comedy Series" category.
"The Lord of the Rings"
Another
film reunion featured Elijah Wood (43), who portrayed Frodo Baggins, and Sean
Astin (53), who played Samwise Gamgee in "The Lord of the Rings"
films.
According
to "People," the two joked on stage about why Wood never received his
SAG Award trophy when "The Lord of the Rings" won. "Sean, you
should pick up my statue for me if we win, what happened to it?" the actor
asked his colleague. Astin explained, "I just read this Marie Kondo book,
and it was a bit of decluttering. Anyway, I just tossed it into the fire."
"Breaking Bad"
TV stars
also enjoyed shared moments at the SAG Awards, especially the "Breaking
Bad" cast. Bryan Cranston (67), Betsy Brandt (50), Aaron Paul (44), Bob
Odenkirk (61), RJ Mitte (31), Anna Gunn (55), Jonathan Banks (77), and Dean
Norris (60) presented the trophy for "Best Ensemble in a Drama
Series."
This
completed a special circle, as the award went to "Succession" for its
last season. Ten years earlier, "Breaking Bad" (2008-2013) had
received the same award for its final season.
"Modern Family"
Sofia
Vergara (51), Julie Bowen (53), Ty Burrell (56), Eric Stonestreet (52), Jesse
Tyler Ferguson (48), and Ed O'Neill (77) on one stage? It could only be a
"Modern Family" reunion.
The cast of
the beloved comedy series (2009-2020) jointly presented the award for
"Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series" to the actors of "The
Bear." Beforehand, they joked about life after the end of their own
series. Vergara highlighted her success with the Netflix hit
"Griselda," while O'Neill admitted missing the paycheck from
"Modern Family."
"The Fly" and "Orange Is the New Black"
While
Laverne Cox (51) hosted the red carpet with Danielle Brooks (34) and Uzo Aduba
(43) for an "Orange Is the New Black" reunion, there was also a film
reunion on stage:
Jeff
Goldblum (71) as Seth Brundle complained on stage that "The Fly"
(1986) was never nominated for a SAG Award. Co-star Geena Davis (68) as
Veronica Quaife reminded him that the SAG Awards did not exist when their film
premiered.
Together,
they then presented the award for "Best Ensemble," which went to
"Oppenheimer."
Winners of the Evening
Christopher
Nolan's (53) film dominated the awards ceremony, with Robert Downey Jr. (58)
honored as "Best Supporting Actor" and Cillian Murphy (47) as
"Best Lead Actor."
Other
awards went to Lily Gladstone (37) as "Best Lead Actress" for
"Killers of the Flower Moon," Elizabeth Debicki (33) as "Best
Actress in a Drama Series" for "The Crown," and Pedro Pascal
(48) as "Best Actor in a Drama Series" for "The Last of
Us."
