An Old Pair of Timberland Shoes
My husband has a pair of American-made Timberland shoes that he bought 27 years ago. Yes, this is no joke — he has been wearing them for 27 years, and they are still in wearable condition. Recently, while talking about this, he said, “Let me write an email to Timberland in the US. I want to thank them for producing such durable shoes and tell them that I’ve been wearing them for 27 years.”
He wrote the email right away. Shortly afterward, Timberland sent a reply. They said they were very happy about his satisfaction and asked if he could send photos of the shoes. He took a few pictures and sent them. The Timberland employee who replied wrote that she had never seen such an old Timberland model in her life and that she had emailed the photos to all Timberland representatives around the world.
Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to find American-made Timberland products. In fact, with a few Timberland clothing items we bought online, we weren’t even sure whether they were authentic, because they were not of the same quality as the items my husband bought from the Timberland store in Munich.
When he wrote to the company, he had no expectations at all — he simply wanted to share his appreciation for such a high-quality product. We have become so used to low-quality, fast-consumed products that encountering a truly long-lasting one now genuinely surprises us.
